To avoid some issues which may occur when rendering video in case your computer has an integrated GPU (Intel/AMD CPU with iGPU) and a discrete GPU (NVIDIA), you need to assign the preferred graphics processor for the AVS4YOU applications. This guide describes how to set Intel Graphics with Quick Sync Video technology as a preferred graphics processor used for video decoding (for H.264/AVC, VC-1, MPEG-2 video codecs).
If your computer is a laptop (notebook), then you can run NVIDIA Control Panel and assign the preferred graphics processor for the AVS4YOU applications as described below. If your OS is Windows 10 starting with v.1803, then you can refer to this article.
Sometimes you might also need to change the Intel Media decoder type used for the AVS4YOU applications to avoid some issues when previewing video (e.g. black preview screen, pixelated preview, freezing during playback etc.) as well as to improve and accelerate previewing, editing and conversion process. The instructions on how to do this can be found in Step 1 of this guide.
First of all, adjust the AVS4YOU program settings for necessary applications.
For AVS Video Converter, perform the following actions:
click the "Settings" button in the AVS Video Converter main program window,
switch to the "Acceleration" tab of the "Settings" window,
select the necessary Intel Media decoder type. Open the Type drop-down list in the "Intel Media decoder" section and choose one of the available options, if necessary: Auto or Hardware.
Auto option is enabled by default and allows to automatically detect software capabilities first and if it fails to find any, it will search for hardware capabilities,
Note: on some PC configurations, the "
Auto" option may not enable hardware
Intel Media decoder. In this case, try to enable the "
Hardware" option.
Hardware option is used for Intel processors with iGPU,
There are two more options in the Type list which are not used to enable the hardware Intel Media decoder:
Software option is used for Intel/AMD CPU,
Disabled option allows to disable the Intel decoder. If the NVIDIA decoder is also disabled, a common decoder will be used.
uncheck the "Use NVIDIA CUDA decoder, if possible" option, if you have previously enabled it,
Note: when the "
Use NVIDIA CUDA decoder, if possible" option is enabled, it has priority over the Intel settings regardless of the settings specified for
Intel Media decoder.
click OK to save the settings,
close the application for these changes to take effect.
Note: to adjust these settings for
AVS Video Editor and
AVS Video Remaker, click the "
Edit" option in the
Top Menu, select the "
Settings..." menu item, then open the "
Acceleration" tab.
For
AVS Media Player, right-click within the
Preview window, select the "
Preferences" option, switch to the "
Video" tab and use the "
Decoders" section.

Run "NVIDIA Control Panel" in one of the following ways:
in Windows Control Panel: e.g., on Windows 7, click the "NVIDIA Control Panel" icon from the Classic View of the Windows Control Panel, or click "Additional Options" and then click "NVIDIA Control Panel" from the Control Panel Home View of the Windows Control Panel.
in Desktop Right Click Menu: right-click the desktop and choose the "NVIDIA Control Panel" option from the context menu,
by clicking "NVIDIA CUDA" picture in the AVS Settings window: for example, click the "Settings" button in the AVS Video Converter main program window, switch to the "Acceleration" tab, then click the "NVIDIA CUDA" picture.
Add the application you want to customize:
At the "Select a Task" pane on the left, open the "3D Settings" section,
select the "Manage 3D settings" menu item below,
open the "Program Settings" tab in the main task area on the right,
click the "Add" button in the control group "1. Select a program to customize:"
in the Windows Explorer window that opens, select one of the following .exe files: AVSVideoConverter.exe, AVSVideoEditor.exe, AVSVideoConverterHost.exe, AVSVideoReMaker.exe, AVSMediaPlayer.exe or AVSAudioEditor.exe.
If you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, you should add the following .exe files:
- C:\Program Files\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoConverter\AVSVideoConverter.exe
- C:\Program Files\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoEditor\AVSVideoEditor.exe
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\AVSMedia\ActiveX\AVSVideoConverterHost.exe
- C:\Program Files\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoReMaker\AVSVideoReMaker.exe
- C:\Program Files\AVS4YOU\AVSMediaPlayer\AVSMediaPlayer.exe
- C:\Program Files\AVS4YOU\AVSAudioEditor\AVSAudioEditor.exe
If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, you should add the following .exe files:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoConverter\AVSVideoConverter.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoEditor\AVSVideoEditor.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AVSMedia\ActiveX\AVSVideoConverterHost.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\AVS4YOU\AVSVideoReMaker\AVSVideoReMaker.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\AVS4YOU\AVSMediaPlayer\AVSMediaPlayer.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\AVS4YOU\AVSAudioEditor\AVSAudioEditor.exe
Note: for
AVS Video Converter /
AVS Video Editor, you should also add
AVSVideoConverterHost.exe together with
AVSVideoConverter.exe or
AVSVideoEditor.exe.
Choose the graphics processor for the added application:
In the section "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" choose the "Integrated graphics" option from the drop-down list,
click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the window to save the settings.
If you further need to use the NVIDIA GPU for AVS4YOU programs, you will need to make the above settings, but choose a different processor (High Performance NVIDIA processor). You can also refet to this article.
Repeat necessary steps to add other AVS4YOU applications one by one at the "Program Settings" tab of NVIDIA Control Panel and choose the graphics processor for each of them.
